16 INT. AMY'S OFFICE - NIGHT 16
The gang's halfway out through the door. Amy's last out, with
Pete, oddly distracted right in front of her. Amy flips off the
light and exits her office.
17 INT. COLLEGE HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS 17
Everyone's convened right outside Amy's office. Amy closes her
door and pulls out her key chain, ready to lock the door.
Everything seems normal, but Jake is staring at Pete, who's
staring blankly in front of him.
JAKE
Pete?
No response.
JAKE (CONT'D)
Pete? Hello?
Jake takes his friend by the shoulders and tries to shake him
out of it. After a second, Pete snaps out of his trance and
nearly collapses to the ground.
No one knows what to make of this. Pete looks up at Dawn.
PETE
(breathing heavily)
Dawn. Women's locker room. The
old gym.
(motions)
Something's happened.
Amy, her keys still in the lock behind her, looks intently at
Pete and then at Dawn.
AMY
Go. I'm not asking more than once
this time.
Dawn gets the message - She runs down the hall with the rest of
the Scoobies looking after her. They head their separate ways.
18 INT. WOMEN'S LOCKER ROOM 18
Dawn enters the locker room via a set of wooden double doors to
one side and begins to look around - slayer senses alert.
Nothing...
Then she sees it - we don't. Dawn gasps, then leans over and
VOMITS out of frame. Whatever happened to the girl - it wasn't
pretty.
Dawn finishes puking, wipes her mouth, and then kneels down next
to the dead girl.
WE POST DOWN
with Dawn. The dead student is in the shadows of the lockers,
but we can just make out the outline of her face as we:
BLACK OUT:
END OF ACT ONE
ACT TWO
19 EXT. DAWN'S BALCONY - NIGHT 19
The balcony is right outside Dawn's bedroom, connected to it by
a sliding door. Light filters out the door and nearby windows to
illuminate the balcony. Dawn is sitting on a padded bench and
Tori's right beside her. Dawn's face shows signs of recent
crying.
DAWN
It was awful.
TORI
(quietly)
That bad, huh?
DAWN
Tor, it was as if someone forced
out all her internal organs
through her skin.
There's a silent beat.
TORI
What does something like that?
DAWN
Nothing human.
More silence.
TORI
Dawn...
DAWN
(interrupting)
I knew her.
Tori doesn't say anything, waiting for Dawn to say more.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Not in the sense of really
knowing her, but she was in my
English class. We talked.
(beat)
Now she's dead and I feel like
somehow it's my fault.
TORI
You can't keep blaming yourself
whenever something like this
happens.
DAWN
Is there anyone else who could
have done something about it?
TORI
Not the point, and you know it.
Right now, you need to call Amy
and get the things who did this.
That's what only you can do.
Tori picks up the cordless phone on her lap and holds it out to
Dawn, who composes herself and takes it. She begins to dial...
20 INT. AMY'S HOUSE - STUDY - NIGHT 20
Amy's alone in her study, appearing to be pouring over some
ancient books on her desk. The only light comes from the desk
lamp, to one side of the antique desk.
WE PUSH IN
on the watcher to find that she's actually dozed off. A half
drank cup of tea sits next to her outstretched arm.
Suddenly, an old fashioned sounding PHONE RINGER sounds from
somewhere in the mostly dark room. Amy's eyes flick open as she
awakens from sleep and tries to get her bearings. She knocks the
tea cup to the floor - It shatters with a CRASH.
AMY
Damn!
Amy glances at her watch, and leaves the lit area around her
desk in search of the phone.
21 EXT. DAWN'S BALCONY - NIGHT 21
Dawn, the still RINGING phone to one ear, is patiently waiting
for Amy to pick up. No answer yet...
22 INT. AMY'S HOUSE - STUDY - NIGHT 22
Damn, it's dark in here. We hear the SOUNDS of Amy groping about
in the darkness. She finds a lamp's pull chain and pulls it,
lighting up the room. The RINGING phone is on a small table next
to the lamp. She answers it, sounding slightly sleepy.
AMY
Hello?
INTERCUT WITH:
23 EXT. DAWN'S BALCONY - NIGHT 23
Dawn's as we left her. She's visibly relieved that someone
picked up the phone.
DAWN
Amy?
AMY
Dawn? What's...
(glances at her watch)
Is something the matter?
DAWN
There's been a second victim.
Amy's much more alert now.
AMY
What happened?
DAWN
Girl. Locker room. All sorts of
awful.
AMY
And the girl?
DAWN
Same M.O...
There's a beat as Dawn tries to keep her composure.
AMY
Dawn?
DAWN
I'm fine.
(beat)
Slashes to the body and lots of
blood. Through the skin...
Amy's tone changes, very serious.
AMY
Listen, where are you now?
DAWN
In my room. Why?
AMY
Just stay there. Don't patrol
tonight. I'll know more tomorrow.
DAWN
Fine. Tomorrow, then.
Dawn hangs up the phone and looks over at Tori, her expression
conveying confusion.
TORI
Come on, spill.
DAWN
When a watcher gets worried, it's
worse than your run-of-the-mill
demon.
24 INT. AMY'S OFFICE - EVENING 24
The office is pretty empty. The only people in here right now
are Amy and Dean Prichard. They're are having an argument in the
doorway to her personal office.
DEAN PRICHARD
It's still gone. Damnit Amy,
Cairo's calling. Someone told
them the mummy went missing. It's
my head they're going to want if
we don't find it.
AMY
What in god's name do you expect
me to do about it? Should I wave
a wand for you Roger and have our
dead pharaoh pop up right here.
Dawn and Jake walk in, talking between themselves. They fall
silent when they notice the argument.
DEAN PRICHARD
Don't patronize me, Reynolds.
(glances at Dawn and Jake)
Call Cairo, get us some time.
AMY
Time for what?
Prichard starts to get going.
DEAN PRICHARD
Two FBI agents have kindly taken
the case. I expect full
cooperation from you. Stall the
museum until they find the mummy.
He leaves, passing Jess entering. Amy stares after him.
AMY
Just what I need - to baby-sit
two federal agents.
Jess puts her bag down and heads across the room to Amy. Jess
gets right to business:
JESS
I have a lead. A pretty big one.
Dawn's ears perk up at this and she starts to join Amy and Jess.
Jake stops her:
JAKE
I'm going hit a party over in the
Mayer dorms - you should show if
you get a chance.
DAWN
Maybe. Since when are you a party
person?
JAKE
(smiles)
Since you started getting all
extra-curricular with the
research stuff.
He goes. Dawn shakes her head and sits down in a comfy chair
near Amy and Jess. She opens her bag, takes out a book, and
starts to read.
JESS
Ever heard of the Nyiss?
AMY
(puzzled)
The name rings a bell, but I
can't place it. Hmmm...
Amy starts to walk over to one of her bookshelves to get a book,
but Dawn, a slightly smug look on her face, glances up at Jess.
DAWN
Clan of snake assassins. Operate
in pairs. Responsible for
numerous deaths throughout
history. Notably, summoned by
Richard, Duke of Gloucester to
murder Edward the Fifth of
England and his younger brother
Richard in 1483. Encyclopedia
Demonica, volume 14, page 562.
There's a beat, while Amy stares at Dawn incredulously.
DAWN (CONT'D)
That help?
She doesn't wait for an answer, and goes back to reading her
book. Amy, a skeptical look on her face, gets out the volume of
the Encyclopedia Demonica that Dawn referred to and flips to
page 562. Her eye's widen as she reads the text.
AMY
How in the world did you remember
that?
Dawn looks up at Amy and shrugs.
DAWN
Dunno. I just did.
She glances at the clock above the outer door and then notices
something in the hallway. Glancing back to Amy, Dawn puts her
book back in her bag and heads to the door.
DAWN (CONT'D)
I gotta go. Late lab.
(beat; cryptic)
Oh. Have fun.
Dawn leaves. Amy looks confused again but realizes what Dawn
meant when FBI agents Dhiver and Murdoch enter the office. They
whip out their badges.
AGENT DHIVER
(re: himself and partner)
Special Agents Dhiver and
Murdoch, Federal Bureau of
Investigations. We were hoping
you could answer a few questions
for us?
CLOSE ON AMY'S FACE
Her look says it all.
25 EXT. MAYER DORMS - NIGHT 25
The Mayer dorms are the really nice dorms on the Tulane campus.
Built in a post-modern style with lots of glass - it's certainly
a nice place to live.
Add to that booze, music, and lots of people, and it's an
awesome dorm to do some partying in.
JAKE INTO FRAME
He looks at the dorm up ahead, and smiles. He walks up, starts
bouncing a bit to the music and heads inside.
26 INT. MAYER DORMS - CONTINUOUS 26
The party's kicking into high gear right now and Jake's
certainly trying to enjoy himself the minute he gets in. He says
hi to a few people he knows and makes his way through the dorms
to the drink table in the back.
Jake walks over to the punch bowl and starts pouring himself a
glass of punch. He stops abruptly when a hand appears on his
shoulder. Jake puts down the glass and turns around to face:
LARRY, a tall, strong, good-looking student with an Alpha
Epsilon Pi fraternity jacket on. Behind him are a bunch of his
friends.
LARRY
Ruth! Ruth. I'm standing here and
I see you and I wonder: who
exactly invited losers to this
party.
JAKE
(dismayed)
Hi Larry. Hey. I just saw someone
I know over there..
Jake tries to move away, but is held in place by Larry.
LARRY
Where're you going Ruth? This
party's just getting started and
I'd like to have a bit of fun...
Larry's buddies chuckle and Jake's face darkens - this is not
going to be fun.
27 INT. AMY'S OFFICE - NIGHT 27
The two federal agents are still here. Agent Dhiver is in the
middle of a conversation with Amy, while Agent Murdoch is
looking around the room.
Tori, Suzi, and Jess, who are all in the middle of demon
research, glance at Murdoch nervously, whenever she gets too
near. Agent Murdoch, being a trained FBI agent, notices this and
walks over to Tori.
AGENT MURDOCH
Agent Allison Murdoch, FBI. You
are...?
Tori shuts the book she was reading and pushes it over to Jess,
who starts to clean up the books.
TORI
Tori. Victoria Walker, ma'am.
AGENT MURDOCH
Well Tori. I can call you Tori,
right?
TORI
Yeah. Sure.
AGENT MURDOCH
I'm just curious as to what you
and your friends are doing here
so late?
TORI
(fumbling)
Well, you see...
SUZI
(interrupts)
We're doing an assisting
Professor Reynolds on an
anthropological study, and it's
really quite interesting. Anyway,
she teaches during the day, so
the only time we can do this is
at night.
AGENT MURDOCH
Oh? What's the study about?
Agent Murdoch, looks around at the three of them.
SUZI
(not prepared for this
question)
What it's about? Well...
Jess steps forward and takes the lead.
JESS
Agent Murdoch? Jessamine Pitot.
I'm the TA assisting these
students.
The study is on Voodoo and if
you'll follow me, I'd be glad to
show you some of our research.
AGENT MURDOCH
That would be fascinating. Thank
you.
As Jess leads Agent Murdoch away to her side office, Suzi and
Tori both take deep breaths.
Just now, Dawn walks in. She surveys the situation and walks
near Amy's inner office, trying to eavesdrop.
AGENT DHIVER
Interesting. Seeing as the
primary crime scene had been
thoroughly examined before we
were brought in, any first hand
accounts would be extremely
helpful...
Amy's phone RINGS. She checks the caller ID and looks up at
Agent Dhiver.
AMY
I'm so very sorry Agent Dhiver,
but I really must take this call
and it's getting quite late.
Could you possibly come back
tomorrow?
AGENT DHIVER
Of course. Please call if you
have any new information.
Agent Dhiver walks out of Amy's inner office. Through the glass
window in her office, we see him walk and over to Agent Murdoch,
who's still in a conversation with Jess. He collects her and
they leave.
Meanwhile, Amy picks up the phone:
AMY
Professor Amy Reynolds. How can
I...
Whoever's on the phone cuts her off and starts to speak. Whoever
it is, they're angry. Amy, a pained look on her face, makes
muted sounds of agreement every so often.
DAWN (O.S.)
Oooh. You're just having a really
bad day, huh?
AMY
(into the phone)
Could you hold one moment?
(places her hand over the
phone and talks to Dawn)
This is not the time to piss me
off Dawn. I'm on the phone with
Cairo, and as you can imagine
they're not happy. Go patrol
tonight.
Dawn makes to argue, but Amy cuts her off.
AMY (CONT'D)
This isn't a request. The Nyiss
are probably about to attack
again. So don't argue. Just go.
Defeated, Dawn throws her bag on the couch and quickly walks out
of the room to patrol.
28 EXT. TULANE CAMPUS STREET - NIGHT 28
Dawn is walking along a dark tree-lined street, a high wall to
her right - the Mayer dorms are farther down the street. We can
hear the SOUNDS OF THE PARTY, before we can see the dorms.
The wall ends, and is replaced by trees. Dawn notices something
and pulls out a mini-maglight from her purse and points it into
the trees.
INSERT - THE BARK OF A TREE
It's partly peeled off, but attached to some of it is a large
piece of shed snake-skin. Instantly alert, Dawn walks through
the trees, into:
29 EXT. MAYER DORMS - CONTINUOUS 29
The SOUNDS of the party louder now, Dawn looks around and finds
herself at the back of the mayer dorms - right next to the
dorm's very own swimming pool.
Stealthily, Dawn makes her way around the pool when suddenly,
someone SCREAMS! Startled, Dawn looks up to the source of the
scream.
ANGLE: DAWN'S POV
Overlooking the swimming pool is the balcony of a lighted up
dorm room. Figures inside, silhouetted by the room's bright
lights are moving around, chanting something.
FRAT BROTHERS
(ad lib)
Throw him out! Throw him out!
JAKE
Noooooo!
Recognizing Jake's voice, Dawn runs to the back door, but before
she can do anything, Jake is TOSSED off the balcony. He flies
through the air for a moment before landing with a sickening
THWACK in the pool. Water flies everywhere - some of it hits
Dawn.
Dawn runs over to the side of the pool and reaches out to Jake.
DAWN
Jake? Are you okay? Jake?
Jake, recovered from his 'bout of flying, grabs a hold of Dawn's
proffered hand and pulls himself out of the pool. Soaking wet,
he looks at Dawn.
JAKE
I've been better.
(beat)
Those bastards...
But Jake can't curse them out. Because at that exact instant 2
more shapes appear in the upper dorm room and all the frat
brothers start screaming.
The sound of ripping flesh is heard and someone jumps off the
balcony and lands in the water. It's Larry - he books it as soon
as he gets out of the water.
DAWN
(to Jake)
Stay here!
Dawn runs and jumps up, getting a hold of the balcony and
pulling herself up.
30 INT. MAYER DORM ROOM - CONTINUOUS 30
Inside the dorm room, the two Nyiss are advancing on a scared
student. Two dead bodies are already on the floor - blood
forming a puddle under them. Dawn looks away and enters a
fighting stance.
DAWN
Why don't you two fight someone
who can actually fight back?
The Nyiss hiss and turn around.
DAWN
launches a jump kick at the head of Nyiss #1. It slides to the
side and slashes her with it's long claws. It connects, CUTTING
into Dawn's stomach and PROPELLING her across the room into the
opposite wall.
She recovers, though obviously hurt, and kicks Nyiss #2
following up with a spin kick to Nyiss #1. Both manage to evade -
they're really fast.
NYISS #2
Lunges at Dawn with it's claws, but she manages to kick a chair
in it's way - the chair SPLINTERS into kindling. Dawn counter
attacks, not gaining much. She doesn't notice Nyiss #1 behind
her.
JAKE (O.S.)
Dawn! Behind you!
Dawn DUCKS and ROLLS - and a stream of acidic VENOM narrowly
misses her. It hits the wall and burns right through it.
The two NYISS take this opportunity exit the room via the
balcony. Dawn collapses against the wall - her breathing
labored, one hand clutching her bleeding stomach. Jake, still
wet from the pool, runs in from the doorway and kneels down next
to Dawn.
JAKE (CONT'D)
Dawn. Are you okay?
DAWN
(delirious)
Jake? It hurts...
She starts to cry. At first, Jake has no idea why, but then he
follows her gaze across the room...
PULL BACK
To reveal the two dead students, lying in a pool of their own
blood. Jake turns back to Dawn, ready to say something, but
she's slid into unconsciousness.
Jake looks just about ready to freak out. He quickly pulls the
bedsheet of the nearby bed and puts it to Dawn's stomach - it
starts to turn red with blood almost immediately. He pulls out
Dawn's cell phone with his free hand and dials 911. The operator
picks up and he speaks:
JAKE
The... There's an emergency. Two
people are dead and my friend's
been hurt.
(beat)
Where? Um... The second floor of
the Tulane Mayer Dorms. Room?
Crap... What room...
(looks around)
Room 213. Please hurry...she's
unconscious. Hurry.
Jake turns back to Dawn and pushes harder on the sheet, or red
with blood, to try and stop the bleeding.
PUSH IN ON JAKE AND DAWN
Things are not going so well...
BLACK OUT:
END OF ACT TWO
ACT THREE
31 INT. TULANE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL - DAWN'S ROOM - DAY 31
It's a hospital room. Clinically white, and devoid of color,
except for the bouquets of flowers and various get well cards
sitting on a side table next to the hospital bed, where Dawn's
resting.
The door opens and a female doctor, DOCTOR ELIZABETH HARDY,
walks in checking a chart. Suzi and Tori are right behind her,
and Amy's right behind them. Dawn's eyes open and she looks
around.
DOCTOR HARDY
Well, I must say, Dawn - you're
recovering very well. Some of
your friends are here to see you.
I'll be back in a few minutes,
okay?
DAWN
Okay.
Suzi and Tori hurry over to Dawn and sit down next to her in the
chairs around the bed. Dawn sits up in bed.
TORI
We were so worried.
SUZI
Jake told us what happened. How
are you feeling?
DAWN
(smiles)
Like I've been put through a meat
grinder a few times. But besides
that, I'm okay. Slayer healing is
one of the benefits I get.
Dawn looks at her two friends.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Thanks for coming.
TORI
Jake and Jess would have come
too, but they had class.
DAWN
That's okay...
Dawn finally notices Amy, standing in the corner, observing the
exchange between the friends. Dawn's eyes narrow.
DAWN (CONT'D)
What's she doing here?
Tori and Suzi exchange a glance - they were worried about this.
AMY
(walking forward)
Unfortunately, I'm somewhat
responsible for your well being.
If something were to happen to
you, the council would...
DAWN
(interrupts)
So I'm just a thing to you? If I
get hurt, you lose your job?
Figures.
AMY
Dawn, it's not like that. Just
stop acting like a...
She cuts off when Doctor Hardy walks back in and addresses Dawn.
DOCTOR HARDY
Well Dawn, I've just checked your
lab work and you seem to have
made a miraculous recovery. Most
people with that injury would
have been in much worse shape.
I'd like to keep you here
overnight anyway, just in case.
DAWN
No! I mean, I really don't like
hospitals all that much and I
feel so much better. See?
Dawn gets out of bed and stretches, wincing slightly, but
obviously okay.
DOCTOR HARDY
Hmm. Well legally, I can't force
you to stay, but...
DAWN
(interrupts)
So that settles it. I have a lot
of work to do.
Dawn starts to pull her clothes on under her hospital gown.
DOCTOR HARDY
(hesitates)
Okay. But get lots of rest and
call me if anything out of the
ordinary happens okay? I'll fill
out your discharge form.
Dawn, having got dressed in record time, nods and motions to
Tori and Suzi to go. She walks out of the room, right past Amy -
Suzi and Tori exchange a glance and follow.
